Yo shredders! Just Jake here.

We’ve been absolutely spoiled lately, haven't we? Those recent storms were all-time, delivering the goods right across the map. But I gotta be real with you—the weather gods are taking a nap on the US right now.

If you're hunting for face shots in the Lower 48 this week, you might want to sit down for this.

The Bad News: The US is Drying Out

My go-to weather guru, Chris Tomer, just dropped his latest mountain update, and man... it’s looking a little sad for us stateside. We are staring down the barrel of a serious dry spell from January 29th through February 5th.

We're talking a high-pressure ridge that's basically putting a lid on the storm track for the Western US.

  • California: Looking at a big fat zero. Zilch. No fresh flakes for Tahoe.
  • Colorado: Might squeeze out 1-2 inches if we're lucky.
  • The Rest: Even the usual suspects like Steamboat are barely scraping a 3-inch maximum.

It’s a total buzzkill if you were planning to call in sick for a powder day in the Rockies. NASA actually just dropped some satellite imagery showing a legit "snow drought" across the West, and the coverage is looking thin compared to what we want to see in late January.

The Good News: Canada is Firing!

But wait! Don’t put the boards away yet. If you’ve got a passport, you’re in business. The storm track has shifted North, and Canada is about to get pitted.

Whistler Blackcomb is the absolute MVP this week. They are set to receive up to 18 inches of fresh snow. That is deep! Imagine the turns in the high alpine right now.

It’s not just the coast, either. The interior is looking tasty. Revelstoke and Mt. Baker (okay, Baker is US, but it's basically Canada let's be real) are potentially looking at 10 inches.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which scores a solid 67.1/100 on ShredIndex, is already a beast of a mountain, but with a fresh foot of snow? It’s going to be absolutely firing. If you can make the trip, book your stay and send it immediately.

The Verdict

So, what’s the play? If you're stuck in the US, it's groomer season. Sharpen those edges, work on your carve game, and pray for the pattern to shift back. But if you can chase the storm, point your compass North.

Fingers crossed this dry spell breaks down soon. Until then, go get some turns where you can!
