Viševnik na Pokljuku is a majestic ski resort located in the Julian Alps, known for its beautifully conical shape and stunning panoramic views. With an altitude of 2050 meters, it is among the first of many summits that emerge west from the Pokljuka plateau. The resort can be accessed from Rudno Polje and is a popular hiking destination. The trail, approximately 3.5km long with an ascent of 700 meters, is both challenging and rewarding, requiring stamina and adequate preparation.
The trail begins along the ski slope from Rudno Polje, before steeply entering the forest and emerging onto the ridge leading northbound to the summit. The last part of the ascent is particularly steep and can be more challenging in winter, requiring proper gear. Despite these challenges, the route is largely accessible, taking around 2 to 2.5 hours each way, with many opting for the circular, anti-clockwise route.
From the summit, hikers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Triglav massif to the west, the Sava valley and Karawanks mountains to the north, Bled lake and Bohinj mountains to the east, and the Julian Alps to the south. In addition to its popularity among hikers, the resort is also frequented by ski tourers, particularly in winter.
Visitors consistently praise the resort's natural beauty and the unforgettable views from the summit. However, the trail is not recommended for inexperienced hikers or young children due to its steep and demanding nature. Despite this, Viševnik na Pokljuku remains a must-visit destination for mountain lovers.
