Ruine Super Saint-Bernard Overview

Espace Super Saint-Bernard – Bourg-St-Pierre is a fascinating abandoned ski resort that evokes a sense of nostalgia and intrigue. This once bustling ski destination, with its old ski lift station and restaurant, holds fond memories for both locals and tourists who remember the thrilling off piste skiing experiences despite the avalanche risks during heavy snowfall periods.

The unique opportunity to ski down the Italian side followed by a bus ride back through the tunnel was a significant attraction of the resort. Its closure, however, has given way to a unique exploration project, making it one of the few urbex (urban exploration) sites in Switzerland.

Visitors often find the setting idyllic, despite the evident signs of abandonment. The ski resort's location in the magnificent landscape of the St-Bernard pass adds to its charm, even if the deserted buildings somewhat mar the view. The resort also offers a unique visual contrast, oscillating between the eerie atmosphere often associated with horror films and the edgy aesthetic reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino's movies.

The resort unfortunately has not been immune to vandalism over the years, but it still provides shelter from the wind and a serene spot to enjoy a meal. Many visitors express hope that the ski area may one day become operational again, as it stands as a testament to the inconsistencies of societal attitudes towards nature and tourism.

Despite its abandonment, the resort still serves as a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. While the closed station and pylons remain as markers of its past glory, visitors continue to find solace and beauty in this unique location.
